... From 1955 until 1960, Patsy had only one major hit, “Walkin’ After Midnight”, which is included in this collection. Poor song selection, inferior production, and constant variation of song formats from rockabilly to gospel to big ballads are often cited as reasons for this lack of success. Patsy’s career underwent a radical change in1960 when she started working with legendary producer Owen Bradley. The pair began to choose material that was better suited to her vocal abilities, which led to commercial success. Her records soon dominated not only on the country charts, but the pop and adult contemporary charts as well, making songs such as “I Fall To Pieces”, “She’s Got You”, “Faded Love”, “Sweet Dreams” and “Crazy” American standards. Willie Nelson, songwriter of one of Patsy’s most recognized hits, “Crazy”, is featured on two of the selections in this collection of recordings. Despite her short period of fame, Patsy Cline is recognized as one of the most legendary artists of all time. Along with Kitty Wells and Brenda Lee, she helped to establish women as an important part of country music, a genre that had long been dominated by male vocalists. Due to her early death, she still possesses the most legendary aura of any female country music star, despite more than fifty years having passed since her career ended.
