The Cannes Film Festival Soundtrack
The Cannes Film Festival Soundtrack

After the Oscars and the Golden Globes, the most prestigious film festival in the world would have to be the Cannes Film Festival, held every year in Cannes, France. It certainly produces the most media interest, after the Academy Awards, with daily television shows being broadcast in masses of countries to keep the viewers up to date and informed about the films on show as well all the latest gossip. However, due to the nature of the films, loosely described often as “Art House” mainly because they are shot in languages other than English!

The festival works on two levels, the competition, and as a showcase foe films to be released in the next few months. This creates a major problem when trying to compile the soundtrack music from the movies on show. The Cannes Film Festival only allows the newest films to compete for the prestigious "Palm D'Or" award, in many cases before they are ready for public viewing. As a result releases are spread throughout the year, making it only now possible to bring this compilation of soundtrack highlights from the major prize winners, most of the competition entries and out of competition films shown at Cannes 2010."

The Director’s Choice – Martin Scorcese
The Director’s Choice – Martin Scorcese

The cult of the film director is an increasing phenomenon, but the music they use in their films is largely overlooked, even though there is a large group of consumers for this kind of product.

The Director is responsible for deciding who to use to write the original score and also decides what original recordings to use when and if he decides to go down that path. Often it is a mix of the two. On this initial series of 3 six page digipak’s, which also include a 12 page booklet out-lining the directors career, we are giving an over view of the music the Director’s have been inspired to use or have created for their masterpieces.

Both Spielberg and Scorcese have been prolific in the number of films they have directed giving us more than enough material for a double CD. Parker seems a to have been a little less productive, but in fact four of his major movies were music orientated, namely ‘Bugsy’, ‘Don’t Cry for me Argentina’,
‘The Commitments’ and “Pink Floyd – The Wall”. Obviously it would be difficult to take any of these works out of context and as such we decided that a single CD would cover all the other major films he directed.

Twilight, New Moon, Love & Vampires

With the release of “Eclipse” Vampires are once again stirring the hearts of young girls around the world and creating some very good soundtrack music in the process. Time therefore, to release a compilation of the very best music from Vampire Films from the last two decades or so. Of course music from the 3 films from the Twilight Saga; “Twilight”, “New Moon” and the just released “Eclipse” are all featured on the CD as well as the other major Vampire successes such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the follow-up “Angel”. Attractively priced, it should work well as an impulse purchase.
